I’ve been thinking about why web design delights me. I realized that it is satisfying to give a professional (and appropriate) face to a business or organization that might otherwise not be noticed. I feel the quality and usability that I provide in my designs optimizes a user’s experience and legitimizes a business. This is especially gratifying for the non-profit and small businesses that I work for. I’m allowing people just like me (small business owners) an opportunity to do what they want, work out of their homes, and essentially spread the same beliefs about working that I possess. We’re all in this “anti-corporate” sentiment together. Sometimes I feel like I’m working for “the man”, but I don’t think that’s true at all. I hope and pray I never see the day I have to work on something I don’t believe in.

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010Tax Time
Monday, January 11th, 2010Oh boy! It’s tax time for us freelancers. I literally have no idea if I’m getting lots back or going to owe a boatload. I’m strapped in and ready for this madness. I LOVE BEING AN ADULT!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
This is the price I pay for being too restless for a day job. Would I have it any other way? Every time I ask myself that, I think… (two weeks off a year…) No thanks.
OrgSync Website
Friday, December 11th, 2009
I’ve been working with a software company for almost a year now called OrgSync. They created an innovative system for campuses (or any top level community really) to manage their children organizations and members.
Recently I tackled the mammoth project of redesigning their website. It didn’t involve redoing their branding but rethinking the layout and design of their information. I’m really proud of it especially since it was all done in about 2 1/2 weeks. The site is built with Ruby on Rails and has some insanely smart navigation and SEO automations (thanks to some dev gurus).
Logged into Google? Results Tricked!
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009I typed in “Austin Web Design” to see where I came up and I came up second! I was so thrilled. How could I get the second listing for such a hot search with virtually no content on my site.I was really suspicious so I had someone else search and it was nowhere to be found.
Mystery!!! But wait… What happens if I log out of my Gmail account (thus logging me out of Google)? Well it turns out if you are logged into Google, your websites will come up before others. Does that seem strange to anyone?
