Leaving Ohio Lyrics

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

I got to spend time with one of my favorite people/artists, Adam Triplett, this trip home. We talked about being on tour with music and what it meant to be a musician. That seems soooooo foreign to me now. I came home and found these lyrics in my journal from 2006, written as I was preparing to leave Ohio for Texas.

Lyrics:

If fortune said “yes” to me, I’d probably do a dance
And if you got next to me, I’d give you a chance
But we have to get out of here, you must understand
The place where we live is built on quicksand

Chorus:
Replace the word “Cannot” with “Choose Not To”
Replace this mess we’re in with something new

Don’t turn around, it’ll just pull you back
Just fill up the tank and “get ya a lil’ snack”
Only 1200 miles and we’re finally there
To be whatever we want, with whatever-length hair

CSS for Beginners – My Recommendations

This photo has nothing to do with CSS

I’m constantly being asked a good way to start learning cascading stylesheets (CSS). I don’t know what you classify it as, it’s not a programming language per se, it doesn’t deal with logic, and it’s a somewhat pseudo form of XHTML. I don’t know the technical terms for it. But I do know that it pretty much revolutionized web design for me and saves my clients thousands upon thousands of dollars every year.

This list is probably outdated and not complete. But if you want to know how I learned CSS, here is where you can turn:

- W3Schools take the CSS Quiz and CSS tutorials!

- I used to frequent a greek restaurant in Round Rock, TX and read my favorite CSS Book, CSS Mastery, which is does more than tell you what CSS does, it explains why. Great book!

- Blogs, the best part about A List Apart is they report on the latest CSS trends and XHTML news. Obviously the more you know about markup, the most you should know about CSS.

If you see this post, feel free to respond with your own recommendations. I wouldn’t mind learning some new stuff.
