Hipster Me

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

I just realized I’m very close to be a textbook hipster but I’m missing just a few components

I don’t have a vinyl player
I don’t wear sunglasses
I don’t have any tatoos
I like Metallica
I’ve only dated one “sad” girl
I don’t playan obscure instrument like the theremin or didgeridoo

I do have the other components pretty well covered:

My job pays a lot but I work so few hours that I have no money
I use an iphone
I drive a scooter
I am jaded on music
I live in Austin, TX
All of my friends are in bands
I frequent thrift stores
I don’t have a TV
I go to the coolest laundromat in town
I love NPR to death
I’ve never heard of Hinder

Please realize this is not a goal of mine to finish the list. I’m just making fun of myself right now.

Fasting - Day Two

Monday, January 12th, 2009

We'll meet again soon, food...

Too….weak….c…ca.can’t….type..ugh…

Just kidding! I’m actually amazed at how good I feel. A few times today when I was doing work and feeling a tiny bit stressed, I immediately wanted to grab some cashews or make a sandwich. But I did not! I was hoping I would avoid it, but I did make a few cups of green tea (which is technically allowed according to my sources). I will probably end tomorrow evening depending on how I feel. It’s pretty incredible how you can fight off the urges and temptations of habits just with the right combination and will power. It hasn’t been a complete cake walk, but easier than I expected. The best part is, I saved money on food this weekend. Ha!

Fasting - Day One

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

My good friend, Luke Eddy, introduced me to the concept of fasting, or at least liquid dieting. I’ve always wanted to “cleanse” my body and also experience what it was like spiritually and psychologically to deprive yourself of food. The habit of eating is such strong strong force. I wanted to eff with it.

I’m in the process of the approaching cliche, Master Cleanse Diet. My major concern was keeping my blood sugar stabilized enough to be able to work effectively. The diet consist of drinking a water based concoction every 20 mins or as needed. It’s specifically designed to keep happy blood sugar levels.

- 1 gallon of drinking water

- 1 cup of organic lemon juice

- 1 cup of grade B organic maple syrup

- 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

So far I’m very impressed at how high my energy is. I feel very alert and energized. I have occasional cravings, but mostly when I smell, see, or hear mention of food. I’m very curious to see what tomorrow’s experience will be.
